PARENT MEMO 5: September 21, 2021

Dear St. Patrick Catholic School Families,
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
The school year is moving right along. At the end of this month, we will hold parent teacher
conferences. The teachers will reach out next week with information on conferences. Middle
school (6th, 7th, and 8th Grade) will hold conferences as a team.

IOWA TESTING
The Diocese of Raleigh will hold IOWA testing for 3rd to 8th grade students the week of October
4th to October 8th. Please check your calendar and make every effort to have your child to
school on time as we will test in the mornings. Getting a good night sleep and eating a protein
breakfast are two things that can get your student(s) off to a good start each morning.

HAIR
Many children still have their summer hair. Now that we are moving into fall, please be sure
your child(ren) have haircuts that conform to school policy. The teachers have been advised to
send notes home regarding hair that is not up to code. Please see below for an excerpt from
the handbook.
No unnatural hair colors or styles. Boys’ hair above the eyebrows, no longer than collar
length. (Parents should monitor hair length. Teachers will warn the student and if a
haircut is not obtained within two weeks a detention will be issued.)

HALLOWEEN
On Friday, October 29th the students are invited to participate in a Fun Halloween dress
day. Students may wear Halloween colors and/or fun Halloween theme shirts and bottoms. No
violent or scary images allowed.
Due to the Halloween Dress Down Day, we will move spirit day to Friday, October 22nd.

VOLUNTEERING AT ST. PATRICK CATHOLIC SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS
We will be allowing limited volunteers in the school this year. If you want to volunteer at the
school, you must complete the volunteer application which includes attending a Safe
Environment Training (SET)class. There are a few online trainings this month. Please see below.
Safe Environment Training Calendar
In addition to attending the SET training, all volunteers need to complete an application with
the Diocese of Raleigh. You can turn your completed application into the front office.

BASKETBALL AND CHEERLEADING
We are starting to plan for our winter sports. We will offer boys basketball, girls’ basketball and
cheerleading for the winter. If you are interested in coaching one of these groups, please email
Christa Larkin at [email protected]. Once we have secured coaches, we will send out
interest forms. We can only move forward with the teams if we have coaches as well as enough
students interested in participating.

DISMISSAL
Please do not call the office or come into the office during dismissal time. Mrs. Mathieu is
actively dismissing students during this time and will not be able to help you until dismissal is
over. If you need to come back into the school or office after school, please wait outside in the
breezeway. When dismissal is complete, the office staff will be available to assist you at that
time.

CHESS CLUB
We will be starting up the chess club for grades 3-8. The club will meet remotely on Thursday
afternoons via Teams from 4:15-5:00 PM.
Please contact Mrs. Shea if you want your son/daughter included on the Chess Club on Teams
[email protected] . Ms. College will also help with Chess Club.
